did you know that "d's", in the context of "throw some d's on that bitch" are infact a brand of rims, called daytons? thats todays gangsta fact.

cascade green.

thought its about time to review a beer. i drink a fair bit of beer. the beer in the spotlight today is cascade green. i don't actually know how to review a beer, so i looked up some other reviews of the same brew to teach myself how. i found 2, and both didn't rate it very highly at all, so fuck learning from them.

i'll make it up.

cascade green is a new brew from cascade in tassie. they're jumping on the "green" bus to produce a product that appeals to people because its saving the planet, which seems a longshot, cos its a beer, not a shower head or light bulb. however, it is entirely carbon neutral. not that they don't produce carbon in the making of the beer, they just buy carbon credits or whatever to offset it, making the carbon disappear into thin air...even though thats where it is...whatever.

as far as taste goes, i don't really know how to describe it. all i can safely say is that its probably the best beer i've ever tasted. mitch said it tasted like grass, one of the reviews i read mentioned "grassy" somwhere, so we can probably agree on that. it tastes a little like grass.

its low carb, which is handy if, like me, you're watching your weight. it doesn't have any preservatives, which according to some are the source of a nasty hangover. the type of hops they put in it are called galaxy hops. thats a pretty sick name for a type of hops, so you know they must be good, and like all good beers, it comes in a green bottle.

its pretty expensive though, at $60ish a carton. $7.50 for a stubbie of it at rics in the valley. i got a carton for $40 at 1st choice, and if its still on special i strongly suggest you do to.

fuck a current affair

"hi, and welcome to a current affair. first, to families that believe they are being stalked by wild cats.."
GET FUCKED you stupid, mind numbing, nation dumbing, racist advocating fuckwit promoting losers.
and why would you even put any show on at the same time as the cook and the chef on abc? what sort of person would rather watch aca over one of, if not THE, most exciting and informative cooking shows to ever grace the telly.
love you the cook and the chef.

part of the weekend never dies.

parklike was damn good. soulwax were amazing.

but im gonna talk about the afterparty.
seeing peaches dj was one of the nights highlights for me, not so much for her dj skills, but to see someone stand on the table in front of the decks and bend down to mix. genius. har mar superstar was getting around half naked most of the night, till he got kicked out after fake bloods set by some wanker bouncer.
the nights highlight for me was when Morgan Quaintance from does it offend you, yeah? grabbed a mic for a rendition of insane in the membrane during their dj set. he does a mean running man.
ages after peaches had finished one of her dancers tried to get back up on the dj booth, but her efforts were hampered, im assuming, by copious amounts of champagne, and she ate it, and took a speaker down with her. that was really really funny. but you kinda had to be there.
the secret acts were definitely a pretty big drawcard to the afterparty, and everyone thought it would be 2manydj's (except dave, who thought it might be jay z). anyway, during fake blood's set we ventured into the other room to see who the other special guest was. there were 2 guys, both behind the decks....and thats it. i'm not kidding, there was nobody in the room. went back to watch the last of fake blood, then the second special guest came on. he was someone i didnt recognise, and he played some shit music, so we were pretty keen to leave, nobody more so than tom, who left in quite spectacular fashion. later on i did some detective work and discovered the dj was none other than met resident andy priddle, who's long list of achievements includes holding residencies in all south-east queensland "commercial clubs", a few MOS tours and a gig at dreamworld. while there are places for dj's like this, and i'm not saying he's bad at what he does, the parklife afterparty isn't one of them. how could you advertise him as a "special guest"? with a whole plethora of international dj's in town he's far from "special", and he plays there every fucking week, so he's clearly not a "guest". i think that given the choice of a split head, hours in a hospital waiting room and 7 stitches OR listening to andy priddle for an hour, tom chose the less painful option.

deeerapht comin live n direct.

went and saw drapht at uber last night. wore my new red shoes. it was a super good night too. rowdy as fuck crowd, so rowdy that they had to keep stopping to tell everyone to calm down. but that was ok, cos i love drapht, and i was gettin pretty wild too. he's one of my all time favorite aussie hip-hoppers, which was easy to convey after 8 beers when i went for a quick chat after the show, and sounded like a complete blabbering mess. but i recon he loves it.
walked back to daves afterwards, through southbank, exclaiming that just about everything in sight 'gets wasted all the time'. was so much fun.
no bikes gets wasted all the time
skateboards get wasted all the time
light pole gets wasted all the time
southbank gets wasted all the time
etc
etc

hey pase.. PLAY SOME HIPHOP!

friday night was pase rock at empire. friday night was fun.
missed the train, took 2 buses. that worked well. went to empire, bought beers, went to chinatown, then back to empire, found dave, watched anna lunoe.

anna lunoe was totally 100% super amazing in every way. defs one of the highlights. then pase rock came on and i was fairly disappointed to tell the truth. what i wanted was some B.O.O.T.A.Y-put-that-pussy-on-me spank rock styles, what i got was fairly plain electro that culminated with him playing that "show me love" song. maybe i have the wrong idea about the track, but van she tech and mstrkrft dropped it at splendour, and i was gobsmacked. isn't it some highly manufactured shitty pop song that gets played at birdees on a daily basis and sung to by dumb chicks and guys with big muscles? anyway i walked straight out. then back in. then he played it again. grrr. sampology was on next and he was amazing. i'll be getting out to see him again asap. then i was out on the balcony and pase rock walked out with a bottle of champagne in hand. i said "great set man" and he, rather nicely, said "want some champagne?" so i drank some of pase's champers, which almost made paying 20 bucks to see him worthwhile. later on there were 2 dudes rockin the 1 and 2's upstairs, i don't know who they were, but they were great too. so many good supports, such a mediocre headliner, such a good night.

badly packed kebab.

i fucking hate funwall posts. i abhor "press forward and see what happens?!?" type things. i loathe most facebook applications. circle of trust? hatching eggs? astrology? yuck. however, the other day while looking at my mate simon's profile i found a really good one. its called 'the bloody offensive aussie insult generator'. type in a friends name, then offend them like they've never been offended before. it goes like this: you have 3 dropdown menus that fill in the gaps of "(friends name) is a ............. ............... with a face like .......................". call your friend an aggro bushpig with a face like a smashed crab, or a ratshit bearded clam with a face like a badly packed kebab. especially if they keep sending you drinks.

thehypefm

as a budding young dj and fresh music lover, heaps of my time is spent perusing thehypemachine in search of new tracks. and i fuckin love it. the hype machine is for sure one of my favourite websites/search engines/concepts. for anyone who hasn't checked it out, do so now. and its not just me. here is what others think,

“A great place to hear stuff that’ll be big in six months”

“Nearly too good to be true, a fool proof weapon when it comes to seeking new music that you’d otherwise not have a chance in hell of hearing.”

“a stethoscope on the chest of aural awesomeness.”

“The Hype Machine is really what makes the tides work. Screw the moon.”

so its great. however today i came across something else, while not being in exactly the same league, is equally as good. its thehype.FM. its an online radio station programmed by bloggers with their fingers ahead of the pulse. endless good tunes. day and night. and mixes and interviews and the like. just stick it on in the background and it does the perusing for you. simple.

p.s. on a bit of a graphic design tangent, the guy who designed thehype.FM website, eric hammond, has a website of his own just here. pretty good flyers and logos and album covers and things.

sick kicks.

i'm really digging the olympics, but not as much much as i'm digging these new, limited edition, olympic inspired nike dunks. available in all the olympic colours, i'd do just about anything for a pair.

avocados

i like avocados. i never used to, but now i do.

also, i'm pretty sure its old news around these parts but the 2 many dj's 'as heard on radio soulwax' mixes are pretty fuckin good.

today i listened to the first three and loved them, even if the track selection would be more recognisable to my parents (or maybe just someone a few years older). the mixing is ingenious and they're full or awesome spoken word snippets and great mashups. check them out for sure. and they're going to parklife, which i am super excited about.

er..ummm...he..hello?

hi.
welcome.
come in.
have a seat.
drink?
something to listen to? i'd suggest an installment of the rub's hop-hop history. the rub are 3 guys, dj ayres, dj eleven and cosmo baker, that have a radio show on brooklyn radio. they have put together a bunch of really great mixtapes, covering hip-hop from 1979-1999. get them here.
